About

A record of how the work is done.

•••

Outpost is a series of long interviews with the people doing the practical work of AI governance.

The interviewees are civil servants, regulators, lawyers, judges, journalists, and researchers — the people whose work shapes how AI is bought, deployed, contested, and constrained inside real institutions. The interviews focus on the texture of that work: what they actually do, what is hard about it that an outsider would not see, what they wish was better understood.

There are perhaps two thousand people in the world doing this work. There is almost no public record of how they do it. Outpost is an attempt at that record.

Each interview is conducted as a long conversation, edited carefully, and published in full. Interviewees review and approve their own quotes before publication. The series publishes every other Tuesday.

Outpost does not write about AI. It writes about the people governing it, in the rooms where governance happens.
